Who are Beavers?
Beavers are young people aged 6 to 8 who:
-Master new skills and try new things
- Have fun and go on adventures
- Make friends
- Are curious about the world around them
-Help others and make a difference, on their own doorstops and beyond
Every week, they gather in groups called Beaver Colonies to hop, skip and jump their way through lots of different games and activities – achieving anything they set their minds to, and having lots of fun along the way.
Promise
After attending meetings for a few weeks, members will make their promise as part of an investiture ceremony.
Scouts is open to people of all faiths and of none. We have different variations of our Promise, so everyone can make a Promise that means something to them, no matter their background or belief.
More information about the variations of the Beaver Scout Promise can be found here.
Law
Unlike older sections (Cub Scouts, Scouts, etc.), Beavers don't have a specific set of laws to follow.
What Beavers Wear
Beaver uniform consists of:
- a Blue Beavers polo shirt or 1st Aldbourne Scout Group t-shirt
- a blue sweatshirt with badges sewn on
- a coloured scarf or 'necker’ to represent 1st Aldbourne (Dabchick) Scout Group (you will receive your necker when you are invested)
- for formal occasions, like the annual Remembrance Parade, you will be asked to wear black shoes/trainers and grey or black school range type trousers.
We don’t want anyone to miss out through financial hardship. If concerns about finances may prevent your child taking part in Scouting or some activities, speak to your local leader, as some assistance may be available in confidence.

Badges
Beaver Scouts can earn a range of Challenge Awards and Activity Badges. You can find all the badges available below. Click on a badge image to see the badge's requirements. The top award in Beaver Scouts is the Chief Scout Bronze award, which is awarded where a Beaver has earned four Activity or Staged Activity Badges of their choice, as well as all six of the Challenge Awards.
You can help your Beaver to keep track of their progress with earning their badges by looking at their badge record on OSM.
